Aviation is seen as a man's world. But various gift companies are making it more female friendly. Here are some suggestions for Christmas presents for women who fly.
The ideal Christmas present for a female aviator is likely to be something to do with flying, particularly if she is as passionate about it as most pilots tend to be. However, female orientated flying gifts can be difficult to find since aviation is still to a large extent perceived as something which men do. But this is changing, and female friendly pilot products are available if the gift giver is willing to spend a little time and effort. Clothing Christmas Gifts for Women PilotsFlying jackets, flight suits, and other aviation clothing gifts may be hard to find in women’s sizes in the shops. But most specialist aviation catalogues do have them. Products such as tee shirts with aviation slogans can also be bought from women’s aviation organizations such as the "British Women Pilots Association", and helicopter related items from female rotary flying organisation "WhirlyGirls". Aviation JewelleryThere are a number of specialist gift companies which sell aviation jewellery, and items can also sometimes be found on the internet auction site ebay. While non-flyers might think that such items are not practical, since earrings in particular can get caught in headsets when flying. These sort of gifts are welcomed by women, who enjoy wearing them to aviation related events and gatherings. Practical Aviation Gifts for WomenMany women would like to receive a practical present such as a headset or spare logbook, but with a girlie touch. It is now possible to buy headsets in different colours, including pink, which are often popular with women. Pink flying suits are also available, as are pink log books and seat cushions. Most of these are obtainable from a company which specializes in flying-related presents for women – Powder Puff Pilot is run by a female instructor, and the company now supplies over 40 US retailers. Aviation BooksBooks about women aviators are always a good choice. In 2008 a book called “The 100 Greatest Women in Aviation” was published, and this would make a welcome gift. Another good choice would be “Wings Around the World” by Polly Vacher, who attempted to fly round the world via both poles. Along the same lines, but by a helicopter pilot, Jennifer Murray has written several books about her round the world record-breaking rotary flights. A little imagination, searching, and time is needed to find appropriate and unusual aviation gifts for women. But it can be done, and such presents will most definitely be welcomed – at Christmas and for birthdays and other occasions.
